Boot Camp Program
Camp Care’s ongoing Boot Camp Program is a unique fitness program that provides structured physical activity to young individuals with disabilities in a group setting, which makes fitness fun and accessible for all. The program is designed and led by doctors of physical therapy who strive to promote wellness across all domains of fitness with a focus on helping participants to achieve their developmental and fitness goals in a supportive environment. Boot Camp meets two times a month to provide functional exercise through varied dynamic strengthening, stretching, and developmental movements.
It has long been understood that physical activity can improve aerobic capacity, strength, agility, and function in individuals of all ages and ability levels, including children with special needs. Recent research also demonstrates the positive effects of physical training on cognitive function in young people with disabilities. Physical activity has been shown to enhance brain development and can improve memory, attention, processing speed, reading performance, and motor learning.
Unfortunately, despite the growing scientific evidence supporting the benefits of physical activity on both the brain and body, children with disabilities are at an increased risk of having lower levels of physical activity than their peers. Camp Care’s Boot Camp Program strives to bridge this gap and has been supporting young people with disabilities to achieve their health and wellness goals.
